I would like to think of this as my first post on my new blog, Not Waving But Drowning.
Now I have actually already posted on here a few times over the last couple weeks but these where largely personal in nature and/or rants that didn’t really reflect the direction I would like this blog to go in. So I decided to wipe the slate and begin again.
I originally created Not Waving But Drowning with software and downloads in mind. Initially I had a (very) short lived blog that reviewed free software each day, this site was to be a extension of that, but as I began creating this I quickly came to the realisation potential is extremely limited in that area.
Technology in general is a hard area to break into blog-wise. A number of large ‘team blogs’ (the so called ‘A-listers’ dominate, while the ‘B-listers’ — typically the lone-man brand, who reflect on and bounce off each other continually.
The area that started to interest me more over time was the ever-growing social media. However not really as an adopter, I must admit I still don’t even use Twitter (!! …shame on me I know). No what interests me is observing how it affects people in general, trends in communication, opinions etc etc.
Not just that though, I was finding the sheer volume of information, services and data now available online mind boggling… hense the name of this blog. Every second day a new start-up comes along with the newest and greatest way to aggregate and integrate things we never knew even needed aggregating and integrating…
Communication used to be as simple as sending an email. Then came chat and instant messaging. Next time I looked all hell had been let loose and web 2.0 was upon us, the old lady next door had a blog about her cats and every second person thought he was a SEO consultant.
What to do what to do?
Well… give me a chance, subscribe to my feed and find out.
